Top 7 Student Friendly Restaurants | The Student Pocket Guide
by Sage Fitzpatrick

Eating out is great, but as a student, it can often be a rarity. And when you do eat out you want to go somewhere worth your time, and more importantly, worth your money. So here are a few suggestions of where you could eat a wonderful meal for little cash…

1. Nandos

The chicken haven that has become a cult amongst students. The poultry specialists offer a wonderful array of flavoured chicken, which are accompanied by a great selection of tasty sides, all for a reasonable price. If you are one of those people who frequent this restaurant every week, the loyalty card they offer will certainly pay off. And that only means one thing – free chicken.

We recommend: 1/2 chicken with 2 regular sides and a re-fill drink for £9.95

2. Toby Carvery

The rightful meeting place for all those who love a roast dinner. And for those who like to eat large quantities of food for little money. Everyday of the week a meal costs under £10; perfect for students and those with a small budget. If you don’t enjoy a roast dinner (shocking I know) then you can pick from a large selection of other meals too.

We recommend: All you can eat breakfast for £3.99.

3. McDonalds

For those students who want to grab a quick bite to eat at lunch, or a drunken burger on the way home from the pub, McDonalds is always there. The food is cheap, prepared and cooked quickly, plus you also have a huge selection to choose from. What’s more, if you flash your student card, a free hamburger or extra fries will be coming your way. Although good value, McDonalds should not be a regular part of your healthy diet.

We reccomend: Quarter Pounder Meal (medium) for £3.99.

4. Pizza Express

If you’re the type of person who loves to eat pizza, then you have to give Pizza Express a try. This outlet is stylish and is always offering deals for its customers. One week you could be getting three courses for £12.95, the next you could be getting a pizza for £1. What’s more, if you have any Tesco Clubcard Vouchers handy you can exchange then for Pizza Express vouchers.

We reccomend: The Summer Special Pizza – buy one main course and get the other for just £2.50. Valid Monday to Thursdays, and on Sunday after 5pm.

5. Bella Italia

Whether you are catching up with a mate over lunch, or dining out with a group, Bella Italia is the ideal venue any time of the week. Offering an authentic Italian menu and a great selection of wines, you can enjoy a little taste of The Med at affordable prices. Take advantage of their 30% student discount available each and every Tuesday.

We reccomend: Spaghetti Bolognaise for £8.65 (£6.05 on Tuesdays with valid student ID).

6. Frankie and Bennys

Frankie and Bennys is an ideal choice for those who enjoy American food, or as they label themselves, American/Italian 50s-style. Great food, great atmosphere and NUS extra cardholders are entitled to 20% off their total food bill when two main courses are purchased from the Main Menu at any Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.

We reccomend: Steak and Fries for £11.95 (£9.56 with valid student ID).
