by Michael Tefula

I love research. It’s usually the best part of writing. However, every now and then I am distracted by random, surprising, and at times amusing facts and statistics…

Below, I will share with you the top 10 statistics and findings that proved to be potent when it came to procrastinating about the research I should have been doing for my next book. Here we go!

Alcohol

  • The oldest recipe for beer is probably 9,000 years old (Source).
  • Speaking of beer, all the key minerals necessary for human life can be found in alcohol (Source).

Sex

  • Guys think about sex around 18 times a day. Women think about it 10 times a day (Source). But all in all, we think about food and sleep more than sex.
  • There’s a 5% chance of being born with a third nipple. Doctors call it a supernumerary nipple. Lilly Allen and Mark Whalberg both have one. (Source).
  • 12% of students report that they have had a threesome (Source). Is the number too low or too high? It depends on the university.

Social Life

Abodus - Live until 29th Sep 24
  • A good social life is worth up to £85,000 a year in terms of life satisfaction (Source).
  • Women who wear makeup get chatted up 6 minutes faster than those who don’t (Source).

Education

  • Going for a 10-minute walk before studying has been shown to improve memory by as much as 25 percent (Source).

Career

  • Apparently being too much of a yes-man leads to men earning £6,000 less than those who don’t get stepped on too easily. For women, this gap is a lot smaller (Source).
  • Money can buy happiness. But once you earn more than £50,000 a year you don’t really get any more happiness bang for the buck (Source).
