Future Talent Awards

Rating: 4 stars

On Saturday evening, Paloma Faith took to the stage in a quirky geometric dress and white platform heels to perform at Thetford Forest in Norfolk… and she certainly didn’t disappoint! The talented 33-year-old started her set exactly on time in front of a sold-out crowd, who understandably struggled to contain their excitement. Her chosen opening song, ‘Take Me’, seemed to go down incredibly well with fans and the evening only improved. The stunning redhed treated her audience to a one and a half hour long set, with her encore lasting 80 minutes. The encore featured some of her biggest hits, including, Only Love Can Hurt Like This and Picking Up the Pieces. As well as performing her own songs, Paloma also executed a fantastic cover of Purple Haze by none other than Jimi Hendrix.

…and if her unique, serene voice wasn’t enough to please her supporters, the evening was made even more spectacular due to it being held on one of the warmest nights this summer. Thousands of fans brought along their chairs and picnic blankets to relax, unwind and enjoy the peaceful summer’s breeze.

The fact the concert was situated in the middle of a forest also added to the atmosphere. The stage appeared rather intimidated by the humungous trees surrounding it, but that just seemed to add to the intimate feel of the gig. This was further highlighted by the petite singer opening up to fans in between songs about her Norfolk background, revealing that her mum is from Banham. As the evening turned from light to dark, the humble star also thanked her support act, Liam Bailey, who certainly got the crowd going.

Having been compared to the legendary Bob Marley, it is hardly surprising Liam went down a storm with Paloma’s fans. His voice a mixture of soul, reggae and blues, the audience couldn’t help but be captivated by his effortlessly smooth performance. It is no wonder he has achieved the success he has, including co-writing and performing on Chase & Status’ single, ‘Blind Faith.’ There is no doubt that Liam Bailey is still very much upcoming and one to look out for!
