No matter where you’re headed or what you’ve got planned for the day, looking flawless is something you want to achieve – without the hassle.

Here are a few top tips on how to make your foundation last for the day ahead!

Prep!

The first step is to cleanse your face, as this helps to remove excess oils and impurities that have built up on your skin. Having clean skin will make your foundation stay in place for a lot longer.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin removes dead skin cells and reveals fresh and much smoother skin underneath, allowing foundation to stay put. Do this no more than twice a week.

Moisturise

Applying foundation to moisturised skin allows it to glide on easily and stops your skin from looking and feeling dry. The idea is simple, the better you prepare your skin before applying foundation, the longer your foundation will last and look gorgeous! Make sure you apply the correct moisturiser that fits your skin type, a light weight base with SPF is recommended.

Prime! Prime! Prime!

Primers are the key to making foundation last longer no matter your skin type. Priming allows your foundation to glide on to your skin, giving it an even application. It also helps to reduce the appearance of pores and redness from blemishes and prevents creases from forming e.g. under your eye. Applying primer also means that you won’t have to use as much foundation. Let it set for 5 minutes.

Foundation

Now you’re finally ready to apply your foundation. Using a sponge/brush or finger, start blending from the centre of your face and work outwards. Depending on the coverage you want to achieve, starting with less foundation and gradually building is important, otherwise the thicker layers will just sit on top of each other and slide off.

Powder

Once you’ve applied your foundation, applying powder lets it set as it absorbs the oils from your foundation. A translucent powder is recommended as this does not change the colour of your foundation or make you look too cakey. Apply powder only on to your T zone (nose and forehead and chin) as these parts of the face tend to get shiny first.

However, if you prefer not adding too many products to your skin, then there is an alternative to applying powder. Using blotting paper or a piece of tissue pulled apart can also do the same job. The reason why foundation wears off during the day is because of the build up of oils on the skin, blotting paper absorbs these oils from your skin and foundation, this allows your foundation to stay on for much longer and creates a flawless finish! You can repeat this step throughout the day as oils tend to build up.
