2016 also marks the first UK Chinese Lantern festival, which is located in Chiswick House and Gardens. The festival is open for five weeks and during this time there will be a number of theatre performances, art pieces and incredible light installations. Among some of the most spectacular sights at the festival, there is a 60 meter long dragon, as well as 50 giant hand-sculpted lanterns. Tickets for the event can be bought in advance here.

Chinese New year Celebration at Rich Mix, Shoreditch

Saturday 13th February

This free event welcomes all ages to celebrate the Chinese New Year. On the day you’ll experience some entertaining cultural performances, with being able to savour a selection of Chinese food and drinks. You’ll also have the chance to browse some of the charity stalls that have been set up for the day. And if you have younger siblings or family members, take them along to too, so they can take part in a number of arts and craft workshops.

Sunday 7th February

From mid-day before the Chinese New Year begins, Croydon will be hosting the festivities to get you in the spirit of the occasions. From lion dancing and street performances, to street food and activities, the day will be full of things to celebrate Chinese culture. And once the parade comes to an end at Fairfield Hall, there will be a copper sculpture of a phoenix on display.

So if you’re in London be sure to check out some of the amazing events in celebration of the Chinese New Year. Or if you’d rather celebrate from the comfort of your own home, why not try and cook your own Chinese feast? Or if worse comes to worse, pull out that Chinese take-away menu you have stashed away and order in.
