The summer and the hot weather is on the way which unfortunately means only one thing …
Shiny face syndrome will be soon upon us! There is nothing worse than getting ready in your cute shorts and your crop tops looking all fresh and summery, but still having to put up with a greasy face. Here are a few tips on how to avoid a greasy face this summer without the help of make-up.

Go Make-Up Free:
Whenever you can try and have a make-up free day, to give your skin chance to breath do so. As I’m sure you all know make-up can clog up your pores, resulting in an outbreak of spots and blackheads as well as the dreaded shine. The more you give your skin a chance to breath, the less likely it is to store all the bad oils and greases. Even if you cannot go without your eyeliner or mascara, try and avoid foundation and powders at least once a week.

Shine Control Tissues:
If you really don’t feel confident enough to go without foundation try using shine control tissues. These are small sheets of tissue paper which are lightly powdered to help reduce and control the shine. You can use these throughout the day so whenever you’re feeling a little shiny, you can have a quick touch up and you’re ready to go once again.
The top Shine Control Tissues I have used are either Superdrug’s Deep Action Mattifying Shine Control Papers or Boux Avenue’s Shine Control Tissues. Both give a light coverage and both work equally well to reduce shine throughout the day.

Face Wash:
I think one of the best exfoliating face washes is Soap and Glory’s Face Soap and Clarity Vitamin C Wash. I have been using this product for a few years now, and find that whenever I do use it my face is considerably less shiny and less greasy. This product acts as a 3-in-1 daily detox which, as stated on the Boots Website, “smooths and purifies for super clean, fresh and bright skin”.

Micellar Water:
I think Micellar Water is a magnificent tool for removing make-up. These products work to not only remove your make up, but to also hydrate and and sooth your skin, keeping it healthy and pure. The two best Micellar Water’s I have found are B. Pure Michellar Water (which is approved by the Leaping Bunny) and Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar Cleansing Water. Garnier’s product is described to be “Like a magnet, the cleansing agents capture and lift away dirt from the skin”. This gives your skin a real fresh feeling and works well to eliminate the impurities which can make your skin look greasy and shiny.
Also never forget to take your make-up off at night, but I’m sure you already knew that.

Drink Plenty of Fluids:
This may sound a bit odd, but the more water you drink, the more you will flush the impurities out of your body. This is a real cheap and easy way to help beat shiny skin… especially if you are prone to outbreaks. If you’re not a huge fan of drinking water add a small amount of squash to your drink, it still does the job perfectly.

So here is a range of relativity cheap and easy ways I try to fight that summer shine! Everybody’s skin is different so don’t be afraid to experiment with different brands and different products, you just need to find what works best for you.
Have a nice summer 🙂 and beat the summer shine.
