The Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale Highlights

If you’ve taken time out your hectic lifestyle to watch the most recent episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead – then you’re probably still recovering from that roller-coaster of emotions it sent you on… If you haven’t seen the mid-season finale, stop reading immediately!  Spoilers alert…

Let’s discuss the interaction between Aaron and Rick. An unusual pairing considering how their first meeting went back in Season 5. However, it appears Aaron held no grudges nor does he take any of Rick’s crap – but he supports him fully. The pair went scavenging for supplies for Negan and encountered a walker-infested lake with only a few hiccups of which included Aaron taking an unplanned swim with the undead corpses. Rick’s panicked state could tell us that the bond between him and Aaron has more strength than we might have realised. We’re not sure about you, but we’re really liking this team of two.

Elsewhere, we’re rooting for Daryl as he makes a risky escape from his Easy Street cell with the help of, we presume, Jesus. The room he ransacked, you might not have noticed, was Dwight’s. You might have recognised the little wooden figurine on the chess board… The same figurine we saw Dwight carving back in the last season when he met Daryl. Did you also notice that the clothes Daryl stole were almost identical to Glenn’s outfit in the first ever episode? We’re viewing this as a subtle tribute…

Talking of tributes, Maggie made an appearance in this video for the first time since Glenn’s death wearing his or a hat that was identical to her late husband’s from the first two series. And also some fingerless gloves that looked pretty familiar on the hand of Abraham Ford… Very subtle…

Negan, the psycho that he is, was still hanging around with Carl and Judith – creepy or what? He prepared and cooked a meal before sitting down with the kids and Olivia, was he trying to play house? Or simply creep us all out? Some of you may know, in the comics we are told Negan was in fact a school teacher – perhaps he still has a love for children? A possible weak point for Negan? Rick’s return is timed poorly when he comes home to Spencer’s guts splattered across the floor and a bullet through Olivia’s head. Practically reminding us that Negan is still unpredictable and will still slaughter out of nowhere i.e. Spencer trying to turn Negan against Rick and Olivia for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time… Yikes. We waved goodbye to Eugene as the Saviours stole him away for making the bullet that Rosita, clearly breaking under pressure, attempted to take Negan’s life. Instead, she bruised poor Lucile. Clearly didn’t go down too well with the big guy. Is Eugene about to suffer the same treatment as Daryl? Or worse…

After dealing with the aftermath of Negan’s visit, the group head to Hill Top after Rick receives a little pep talk from his beloved Michonne; it’s time to fight back. But, after a gory, upsetting episode, what the fans will be taking away with them is the touching reunion between Rick and Daryl; the highlight of the episode.

All in all, it was a crazy episode left on an incredible high that will have us all waiting anxiously for the show’s return next year. All we can say is – s*its about to go down. You can watch the final, touching scene below….
