For university students everywhere, looking good is usually high up on the list of priorities. Every day is pretty much a catwalk. Hair never out of place, skin buffed and polished to within an inch of its life, and that’s just the boys! But with many of you tied to a strict budget, looking your best for less may seem like a far off target. By following these simple steps you can try and achieve, ‘the look’, for a fraction of the price.

Need a hair cut? Instead of paying obscene prices to get your hair trimmed, try out your local hair dressing school or college. Your hair will be cut for a portion of the price, saving you plenty of money. But don’t worry; the trainees are closely supervised, so your tresses are in safe(ish) hands!

Shop around. Don’t just buy the first product you see, do a bit of research! Chances are that you will find the product you are looking for (or a similar alternative) for cheaper a price in another store or online. Also, make the most of deals offered in shops. BOGOF and 3 for 2 offers are great for students who are on a budget and need to get as much for their money as possible.

Swapping named, expensive brands for cheaper alternatives, will also save you bundles of cash, as well as helping you achieve your desired look. The high-street retailers make great versions of your favourite brands – so start switching now!

Economising is also a great way for you to achieve your desired look for longer. Is your shampoo bottle nearing the end? Cutting open the bottle will allow you to reach the remainders of your favourite hair wash. Has your foundation run out? Add a little water to the bottle and shake. That’ll keep you going for a while longer. And if you run out of shaving gel, use either conditioner or a cheap block of soap; it does the job and costs less too!
