Today, the charity ‘Stonewall UK’ held a conference in London in order to raise awareness of the importance of equality in the workplace. Stonewall is a charity for individuals who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

Since the charity began in 1989, they have helped create big chances in legislation, so that people are no longer discriminated against. Thanks to Stonewall, same-sex couples are now able to get married and/or adopt a child. They also helped lift the ban on LGB individuals working in the military.

Although they charity has done so much to help change the lives of others, there is still work to be done, with ‘1 in 5 lesbian, gay and bisexual people still experience bulling and harassment at work.’ Holding a conferences creates greater understanding understanding and we think it’s great that equal treatment in the workplace is now being openly talked about.

If you’re at University and are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and would like to meet others like yourself – why not see if they have an LGBT Society that you can join?
