It’s official… Gio returns! He’s back! Whether you love him, or hate him, you certainly can’t argue with the fact he’s a highly memorable character. So, what does this new ad campaign for Go Compare entail? What’s going to be annoying you for the next few months? Let’s take a look…
In 2009, Go Compare (a financial services comparison website) launched their new advert featuring Gio Compario, a fictional character played by real life tenor, Wynne Evans.
Evans can be seen in various locations singing the Go Compare theme tune. Here’s the loveable character belting out the famous song in a coffee shop.
The series of adverts certainly didn’t go unnoticed and in 2009 and 2010, they were voted the most irritating advertisements by the general public. This led the brand to take a new direction and they began to feature celebrities amongst Gio in their advertising campaigns. Jimmy Carr, Sue Barker and Stephen Hawking were some of the big names that got involved.
The advert Sue Barker was involved in even featured her killing off the opera singer!
So the charming, but rather irritating character has had a bit of a break from our screens recently, but today, Go Compare have announced the Gio is well and truly back as as one man band! So if you can bare it, check out his latest ad campaign below…
We think it’s one of those advertisements you can’t help but love to hate and one things for sure, whether you like it or not, it’s certainly doing wonders for Go Compares profits!
