DIY Cocktails
We got our cocktail-making chiefs back to their master classes and we’ve devised some D.I.Y recipes that you can make at home!
Mojito
Ingredients – Lime Juice, Sliced Lime Wedges, White Rum, Caster Sugar, Crushed Ice
Squeeze 20-30ml of fresh lime juice into a small glass and spoon in one tablespoon of caster sugar. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and then throw in a load of whole mint leaves into the cup. Pour over crushed ice, slot in a lime wedge and stir again; this breaks down the minty leaves and flavours more. It’s time for the alcohol! 50ml (or more if you’re feeling naughty) of white rum gets added and with that, stir AGAIN! Add a straw and enjoy.
Cheeky Vimto
Ingredients – WKD Blue, Port, Ice
We’ve all had this classic drink in “said pub” and it’s often drunk in jug sized bulks. 550ml of WKD Blue, 100ml of Port, mix it all in with ice in a jug and BAM! A tasty Cheeky V!
Cuba Libre
Ingredients – Cola, Lime Juice, Lime Wedges, White Rum, Ice
This one’s easy… Place some ice cubes into a tall glass, juice a whole lime onto the ice, fill it three-quarters with cola, and then pour in the white rum to the glass top. Stir it all around and garnish with a lime wedge. Tasty.
Margarita
Ingredients – Limeade, Tequila, Triple Sec, Mint Leaf
Grab a large bottle of limeade and slam it in the freezer until it resembles slush. Scoop the limeade into a cocktail glass, add 50ml of tequila, a tablespoon of triple sec and stir until fully blended together. Top with mint leaf to garnish and enjoy in the baking hot sun.
Great Gatsby
Ingredients – Lemonade, Lime Juice, Lime Wedge, Southern Comfort, Ice
Okay, so this recipe may not be as main stream as the others, but it is still tasty and easy as ever. Take a short tumbler and scoop in a handful of ice. Add 50ml of Southern Comfort, top the glass full with lemonade and squeeze over the juice of a lime. Stir, slot in a lime wedge and get the true taste of the 1920’s. Bliss.
Sex on the Beach
Ingredients – Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Ice
Half fill a long glass with ice; pour in 50ml of vodka, 25ml of peach schnapps. The rest is easy… Grab your juices and you guessed it, pour equal measures of them in until your glass is full. Give it a stir, throw in a straw and slurp away.
Pina Colada
Ingredients – Coconut Milk, Pineapple Juice, White Rum, Ice
Start off by putting a handful of ice in a high ball glass and pouring in 50ml of white rum, and then 25ml of coconut milk. Give it a stir around and proceed to fill the rest of the glass with fresh pineapple juice. Stir around again and you’re ready to drink! Why not serve this in a hollowed out pineapple for a Caribbean twist?
