The Amityville Horror

It’s time to start counting down the days to Halloween, and what a better way to do that than a daily post telling stories of the darkest, and most terrifying paranormal cases from around the world? Let’s start with the famous Amityville Horror! Based on true events…

The story begins November 13, 1974 in Amityville, New York. When Ronald DeFeo was found guilty of murdering his entire family; his father and  mother, and 4 out of 5 of DeFeo children. The victims were found face down and bloody in their beds with no sign of struggle. Even stranger, Ronald had used an un-silenced 35-Marlin rifle but the 6 shots were never heard… It’s speculated that Ronald was under some kind of demonic possession as it seemed almost impossible for one man to murder his entire family without struggle, waking the neighborhood, or drugging the victims, which there was no evidence of…

Ronald confessed and was sentenced to 6 consecutive life sentences.

On December 18th 1975, the Lutz family moved into the old Defeo house for a steal of $80,000 only 13 months after the DeFeo murders. As the family unpacked, a priest came to bless the house, as he sprinkled holy water in the room that formerly belonged to Marc and John DeFeo, a demonic voice told the priest to “Get out!”. The priest simply told the Lutz family to not let anyone sleep in that room to which they hesitantly agreed to and turned it into a sewing room. Within days, a very uncomfortable atmosphere entered the house; arguments ensued, the house was constantly cold, and the health of the family quickly declined. Their youngest daughter began spending all her time in her room with her “imaginary friend” whom she claimed had red eyes and resembled a pig that could shape shift in size. The “friend” also claimed it couldn’t be seen by anyone unless it wanted to.

Eventually, the smell of rotten flesh kept filling the house with no source. Black stains/gunk began appearing in the toilets, and a greenish slime kept appearing throughout the house… And despite being the middle of winter, hundreds of flies appeared in the sewing room. Kathy Lutz claimed to be touched by an unknown force on multiple occasions, whilst George Lutz woke every night at 3:15am… the same time the DeFeo family was brutally murdered.  The final straw came when George witnessed Kathy turn into a elderly hag and levitate off the bed during the night, after that, the family tried to contact the priest but were unsuccessful and took matters into their own hands. They tried performing their own exorcism using a crucifix but only aggravated the demonic spirits. On the final night, the Lutz experienced furniture and objects being thrown, banging, growling, and psychically being pushed and hit. After surviving a mere 28 days, the family fled the house with only a few belongings…

20 days later, paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren entered the home armed with a team of reporters and investigators, the Lutz family refused to be a part of the investigation. Ed was physically pushed to the floor by an unseen force, and Lorraine was terrorized by the intense presence of demonic activity and the vision of the DeFeos’ dead bodies covering the floor. The team discovered a man named John Ketchum who used to practice black magic on the grounds before the construct of the Dutch Colonial in 1924. His remains are buried there till this day… It was also discovered Shinicock Indians once had enclosures on the land for the ill and insane, many were left there to die…

Ed and Lorraine concluded the house was a very dark, unholy place perfect for the demonic activity and the negative energy most likely impacted the DeFeo’s too. The Lutz sold the rest of their possessions and relocated to California. The house sold for $950,000 in 2010 and is currently on the market. Recent residents of the home have reported no further paranormal activity…
