I bet it’s boring drinking the same sort of herbal teas everyday, strawberry & raspberry, mango & cinnamon, mint, lime & ginger…all of them! Here are some homemade herbal tea blends for all of you tea lovers to try…

Red Chai Tea

What you’ll need

  • 2 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
  • 1 Tablespoon cardamom seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon fennel seed
  • 1 Tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • A few whole star anise
  • 6 cups filtered water
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
  • ¼ cup loose Rooibos tea
  • Almond milk, soy-milk, or coconut milk to taste
  • Honey or sugar to taste

Method

  1. Add the broken up cinnamon sticks, cardamom, peppercorns, fennel and cloves to a large saucepan. Heat over a medium to low heat until the spices are toasted and fragrant.
  2. Add 6 cups of water to the large saucepan along with the ginger. Bring to a boil and add red tea. Turn off the heat and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. Strain out tea and spices and serve into the mugs.
  3. Enjoy with your favourite milk and sweetener.

Earl Grey Iced Tea Vodka

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup good-quality organic vodka
  • 2 bags of organic Earl Gray Tea (or whatever tea you like!)
  • 2 tablespoons organic sugar
  • pint-sized mason jar
  • strainer
  • another pint-sized mason jar

Method

  1. Add the vodka, tea and sugar into a mason jar. Shake well to dissolve the sugar
  2. Steep the vodka for 4-6 hours…Depending how strong you’d like it.
  3. Strain into the second jar and you’ve got tea cocktails!

Orange Spice Tulsi Tea

What you’ll need

  • 1/2 cup dry tulsi leaf
  • 1/4 cup dried orange peel
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon chips
  • 1/4 cup whole cloves

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and store in an airtight jar in a dark, cool place.
  2. To brew: For each cup pour 8 oz boiling water over a heaping teaspoon of tea. Brew for 5 minutes or more, depending on taste. Sweeten if desired.
