Natural Ways to Detox

It’s been a few weeks since the holidays ended and many of us are feeling a little sluggish, and generally unhealthy after the unhealthy amounts of food and booze we consumed during the Christmas period. We hear a lot about people going on a “cleanse”  and wonder, how beneficial can it really be?

A detox of your body typically consists of eliminating all those dodgy toxins from your body and welcoming in the good stuff by eating the right foods, exercise, and various other body and mind beneficial activities and methods.

Drink More Water
Even if you think you are drinking enough water, up your game and aim for the recommended 2 liters a day. It sounds a lot, and it is. But we often underestimate how much water we really need for our bodies to function efficiently. It essentially flushes out the waste in your body naturally and promote clear skin, properly functioning organs, and improved brain function.

Visit the Sauna
A great way to rid your body of all those bad toxins is to visit a sauna and essentially sweat out the impurities whilst relaxing! This also does wonders for those terrible hangovers.

Replace Coffee
It can be difficult, but exchanging that morning coffee with a cup of refreshing green tea will work wonders. Green tea has antioxidants that our body needs to function efficiently and naturally, it also promotes weight loss thanks to it’s ability to increase metabolism.

Exercise
Finding motivation to hit the gym this time of year can be near impossible. But joining the gym isn’t all about finding those abs! Regular exercise is great for your mental health, too! Regular exercise releases endorphins which gives you a mood boost as well as improving brain functioning. You’re going to sweat out all the impurities in your body.

Go Organic
Going organic means you don’t run the risk of ingesting pesticides and preservatives. This matters most for the fruit and vegetables where you eat the skin i.e. tomatoes and apples. Choosing the right organic foods means you avoid toxins and is a simple way of detoxifying the body.

Superfoods
Superfoods contain important nutrients and antioxidants our bodies need to fight infection and illness. Introducing more superfoods into your diet helps fight off dodgy toxins that may negatively effect our immune system. Here’s a list of some our favourite superfoods:

  • Tuna
  • Avocado
  • Flax seeds
  • Almonds
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Carrots

If you can incorporate those into your diet and cut out the carbs and sugar, you’ll be sure to notice some wonderful changes to your health.
