In celebration of National Vegetarian Week, we’re going to talk you through the myths that have been preventing many people from taking on a meat-free lifestyle…

“YOUR WORKOUTS WILL BE HARDER”
Nutritionists have stated that you can fuel your workout as efficiently on a vegetarian diet as you can on a meat based diet. As long as you are seeking out certain nutrients that are usually found in animals products i.e. protein and vitamin B12.

“VEGETARIANS LOSE TOO MUCH WEIGHT”
Not all vegetarians are thin nor even healthy. Vegetarians can still consume highly processed foods which means they are not reeping the real benefits of a plant-based diet. Subbing out your meat for vegetarian friendly junk food doesn’t make anyone a healthy vegetarian.

“YOU WON’T GET ENOUGH PROTEIN”
Meat isn’t the only place you can get your protein from. In fact, to an extent, all foods except for alcohol and sugar have some level of protein in them. Lentils, beans, nuts and seeds are all great sources of protein for someone who is looking to cut meat from their diet.

“IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE”
You might say that, but meat is typically the most expensive part of your grocery shop which makes vegetarian shopping a whole lot cheaper. Plus you can always buy your fresh produce as frozen products to make things even cheaper!

“MEALS WILL GET BORING”
Once you learn to step away from the salad every night, you’ll find ways to experiment with foods and you’ll be surprised at the variety of tasty and exciting meals you can create. It doesn’t have to be the same every night and there are endless meat substitutes, too.
