The idea of being in a relationship may scare commitment phobes, while others dream of finding the one and settling down to live out the rest of their lives with that special someone. Of course, having a long-term partner is a truly magical and wonderful part of life – but it’s no secret that it comes with its own set of challenges combined with hard work and determination.

Here are the true struggles of being in a committed relationship…

You’ll put on a little bit of weight…

In the early stages of a relationship when you are finally comfortable with each other, your favourite thing to do is eat. You love going out for meals together, ordering takeaway – seriously, as long as you have food and their company, you couldn’t be happier. Who cares if you get a little chubby? You’ll be chubby together.

Nights out with the girls/lads is a little less entertaining…

I won’t lie, being in a relationship does mean less gossip and drama in your life which some of you might be thankful for. That is until you head out with your mates and have nothing exciting to tell them. I don’t think your friends really care that your partner keeps stealing the bed covers from you at night.

You don’t dress to impress anymore…

This might sound like a good thing because you already have the man/women of your dreams – but your personal hygiene is suffering and you can’t remember the last time you shaved. But who cares? Your partner definitely doesn’t. Strangers probably think you’re a little gross, though.Relationship
Clubs and bars are boring without hunting…

You know exactly what I mean; going out meant constantly scanning the room for a piece of eye candy or even someone to take home. But now, all you can do is dance and drink, and notice actually how terrible the music is.

The awkward questions about the future…

Sure, maybe you’ll get married and have kids one day – but not right now, and you’d really appreciate it if uncle Gary would stop asking. What a great way to make everyone in the room feel uncomfortable, though!

It’s a team effort…

Of course it is, you’re committed to each other and your lives have become one. The only time this is difficult is when you’ve got to wait for each other to watch your favourite TV show… The most unfaithful act you can commit is watching it without them. And then LIE about it.

You can’t sleep alone…

That’s right, you’re so used to having someone to cuddle up to that when they’re away – you spend the entire night tossing, turning, and noticing how large your bed is without them. You feel pathetic, but it’s the absolute truth.

Bath stealing…

I’m not sure if this is just my relationship, but everytime I run a bath and leave it unattended while I grab a towel, my partner jumps in. I don’t tolerate bath thieves very well.

Accepting their flaws…

If you get into a relationship expecting them to be perfect and flawless, you’re in for a shock. The biggest challenge of a relationship is understanding that there will be times they really upset you. But trust me, they will feel the same way about you at times. Who knew their habit of leaving cupboard doors open would trigger such a huge row?
