Make money from gaming – people say that when you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. If you are a gamer then you probably wonder if that is true for you as well. Can you make money as a gamer and turn your passion into a career?

While it is difficult to do, you can indeed make gaming your career. If not, then at least you can make some side money to pay your bills from your skills learned while gaming.

It simply takes a little bit of creative thinking and plenty of hustle to be able to turn your hobby into a job.

In this article, we will go over several ways that you can turn your passion into a pay-cheque.

1 – Become a streamer

If you are really good and have some personality then you may see some success as a streamer. Whether you use Tik Tok or Youtube, you can build a following and eventually be able to monetise it.

You’ll need to be very good at the game and have some cool and unique strategies and moves to be able to build that following.

No matter how good you are, you have to have some flair when playing. It pays to practice a lot before you decide to try streaming your games. Go to a site like Unranked Smurfs and buy a Smurf account to use for practice. Focus on being entertaining as well as good so you give your audience a show when you play.

Have a good sense of humour and understand how to engage your followers so they come back for more. Once you have a following then you can see some decent money from the ads. To get ahead and begin streaming, consider investing in the best setup for streaming, equipment that allows you to stream confidently to your fans.

2 – Be a gaming tutor

People are always looking for a helping hand to beat a boss or to increase their player rankings. And they are willing to pay for the service if you can help them.

Think of it as any type of tutor. If a student is having a hard time with algebra, they pay an expert to help them study and pass their exams. It works the same way when your expertise is gaming. Whatever your favourite game is will have people looking for help to play.

Scour forums and be active as somebody who likes to help. Eventually you will be seen as an authority and people will come to you for help.

3 – Become a coach

Those that can, do. Those that can’t, coach. You may know all the ins and outs of a game and yet are not good enough to play professionally on an esports team. But, you can use that knowledge to coach others and get the most out of them to lead a successful team.

Start out by putting a team together and coaching them to see how it goes. You’ll learn a lot about how to actually coach as it is different than just playing. If you are the type that likes to co-ordinate your team when you are playing then you may make a good coach.

4 – Become a playtester

Beta testing is important for just about any software to find bugs that the developers may not know about. And video games are no different. You can be part of that development by getting paid to test out video games and give feedback on what can be improved upon.

You may not love every game you play and you may not even be that good at it. But, if you are known as a good gamer and enjoy the fun of learning new games, then you will probably be successful as a tester.

The best part is that it is usually remote and can be done in your spare time. As a student, you can do this part time while studying or, if you work can be done on the weekends.

5 – Write about the games

There are so many publications and websites that review games and write guides and things like that. If you are passionate and knowledgeable about video games or one in particular, then you can parlay that knowledge into a job.

If you don’t think you are a good enough writer, don’t worry. Read up on how to write engaging copy and learn. Then combine this new knowledge with your gaming knowledge and send out some samples to the publications you would like to write for. It will take some hustle to break into this but it can lead to a long term career if you want it to.
