The current lockdown means we can’t celebrate birthdays in the ways we usually would. While going to a fancy restaurant, heading for a night out or jetting off on holiday are out of the question, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a really fun day in line with the government guidelines. Here are some ideas for celebrating in style on your birthday in lockdown.
Plan a picnic
Now that the government has relaxed lockdown measures slightly, groups of up to six people are allowed to meet socially distanced outdoors or in a private garden. So why not plan a picnic in your local park with your friends or some members of your family? Each of you could bring your own food and sit in the sun socially distanced for a good catch up.
Decorate the house
What better way to celebrate than by decorating the house? Filling your home with bright and beautiful birthday balloons, banners and confetti will make sure the day feels special and different from the others you’ve spent in lockdown.
Video call friends and family
Your friends and family will want to wish you a happy birthday, so plan in times of the day for video calls with your loved ones. You could simply have a catch up during the day, enjoy a few drinks in the evening, or even play a few games over video chat. There are loads of fun activities to choose from, including pub quizzes, Pictionary, charades and more!
Do cocktail making in the kitchen
If you can’t head out for a few drinks, why not bring the party to you and your housemates? You could have fun doing some cocktail making in your kitchen with the people you live with, whether that’s family or friends. Each of you can choose your favourite cocktail and recreate it at home, then enjoy sipping your creations with a few nibbles.
Have a themed party with your housemates
If cocktail making isn’t your scene, then you could organise a fun themed party for the people you live with. There are loads of themes you could do, from dressing up as your favourite TV characters to professionals you dreamed of being as a kid. If you were planning on jetting off on your birthday but your trip was cancelled, why not bring the location to you? For instance, if you were planning on going to Paris, you could have a Parisian themed party complete with great wine, cheese and patisseries.
