It is a well known fact that men do not visit the doctor as often as they should and can even ignore symptoms when medical issues arise. This is likely to be one of the reasons as to why women generally live longer than what men do – because they listen to their body and act accordingly in good time.

This is why it is important that men go for annual checkups with a doctor so that their blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and weight is monitored. This is because if any of these things get too high then it can pose a serious health risk. During a checkup and if any of your levels are elevated, a doctor is able to make a series of recommendations (i.e. treatments, medications, lifestyle changes) to combat the issues.

For those men that do not like to physically go and visit the doctor or do not have the time because of work or other commitments, there are companies out there that provide one off doctor consultations over the phone – one of these companies that focuses on men’s health particularly is Numan. Eating Well

Eating a diet that consists mainly of highly processed and packaged food is not good for you as they are usually packed full of calories, salt, sugar, fat, and artificial additives. Instead of consuming this, you should try and get as many vegetables and fruits, whole grains, foods that are rich in fibre, lean meats, and fish into your diet as possible.

When ever you visit the grocery store, always shop around the perimeter of it as this is where the fresh food is typically displayed. Doing this will mean that you spend less of your time going up and down the aisles, which is where the processed and packaged food is typically kept.

Looking After Your Skin

When men reach a certain age (50+ years) they develop a heightened risk of getting skin cancer – this is especially true for white males. In order to combat this, there are a number of things that you can do, including wearing protective clothing, spending more time indoors or in the shade, wearing sunscreen that is at least SPF 30, and ensuring that this is applied to exposed areas around every two hours or so. It should be more often than this if you are particularly sweaty or if you have been for a swim.

It is not just the sun that can damage your skin – tanning beds should be avoided for the same reason as well. It is important that men keep a good check on the condition of their skin, including being on the look out for new moles appearing or the change in texture and / or colour of any existing ones that you may have. A mirror can be particularly helpful to help you examine those areas of your body that are hard to see for yourself. In addition to self checks, you should also visit a dermatologist on an annual basis for a skin check up.
