A UK rap mockumentary series called Dropped lands on Channel 4’s YouTube channel tomorrow. We caught up with Iain Gordon who plays Shella, to talk about the new comedy series, his character, the audition process, and favourite filming moments…

Iain Gordon Interview | Dropped

Can you describe the new comedy series Dropped to us?

Dropped is a funny warm hearted mockumentary about two long time brothers trying to regain the fame they once had, and they’re willing to do anything to get it.

Can you tell us a bit more about your character and the rap duo he is a part of?

Shella is a motivated individual who strives for nothing but greatness, he’s kind hearted, somewhat gullible and tends to easily get swayed but he’d never admit it. He’s a motivator and likes to bring his people up with him, especially his brother XEN1 (other half of ATM) they’ve been close since they were young. It’s clear ATM means the world to them and they won’t stop striving to get back on top of their game.

Abodus - Live until 29th Sep 24

What are your top 3 tracks on your Spotify (in character, and out)?-

Top 3 tracks as Shella would probably be:

  • Kano feat. Wiley & Giggs – 3 Wheel-ups
  • Suspect feat. Giggs – Wonder What
  • Potter Payper – Hungry little F*cker

And for Iain it would be,

  1. Lil Baby – Sum 2 Prove
  2. Offset feat. Gunna – Wild Wild West
  3. Flo – Feature Me

If you were to go down the pub with your character, would you get along?

If I were to go down to the pub with Shella I think we’d get along for a while but I reckon he would start to annoy me as time went on. He’s one of those people you could only deal with in small doses.

What’s been your favourite memory from filming the series?

It’s genuinely so hard to pick a favourite moment, the whole process has been so amazing. If I absolutely have to… my favourite would probably be the day we shot the music video, the vibes that day were off the charts, we all had so much fun on set.

How did you land the role – what was the audition process like?

The audition process was pretty cool, my agent sent me the script to do a tape and I remember reading it and laughing hard. I remember telling myself  “yo this one here’s me”. I straight up recorded and sent the tape and about 3-4 weeks later I got an offer for the role, I was so gassed.

What is the overall message the programme delivers, in your opinion?

In my opinion the overall message is that, you should never give up on a dream, no matter what obstacles life throw at you, or what people think or say, you’ve just gotta keep pushing through.

I’m excited to watch the series which airs from tomorrow – I expect your phone is going to go crazy! Do you envisage this performance and show taking your career to a new level?

I honestly do, it’s showing me in a different light, I’m buzzing and I can’t wait for everyone to watch!

What are your top 3 series, or movies you’ve seen

This is a difficult one! I recently finished Breaking Bad, which is just incredible. The Office (US) and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

What is it that interests you most about the industry you are in?

I’d say the levels of creativity different people possess. It’s so inspiring, acting, music, dance, creating art… I just love being around different creatives, that gives me energy.

What top tip would you give someone wanting to pursue an acting career?

I’d say don’t wait for opportunities to come, go out and find them yourself and never give up. If you have a dream, chase it no matter how long it takes.
