Future Talent Awards

Actor Ricardo P Lloyd reflects on his journey and provides insight on some of the challenges he has faced so far.

As a successful working actor, I have faced a multitude of challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today. From facing racism in the industry to battling the stereotypes often associated with black actors, I have overcome adversity time and time again.

But recently, I faced a new setback in my career – losing my acting agent. After working with my agent for three years, they decided to retire from the industry, leaving me without a vital part of my support system.

Losing an agent can be a significant blow for any actor, as they are the ones responsible for securing auditions and bookings for jobs. This relationship is built on trust and dedication, and when it comes to an end, it can feel like everything you’ve worked for is falling apart.

However, I am not one to be deterred by setbacks. Instead, I choose to face them head-on and push myself to new heights. As an actor who is passionate about thinking outside of the box, I know that this challenge presents an opportunity to reassess my career goals and refocus my energy.

While losing my agent may seem like a setback, it is also a chance for me to prove my resilience and tenacity. I am confident that with my talent, dedication, and hard work, I will overcome this obstacle and continue to excel in my career.

As a Black British actor, I know that the entertainment industry is rife with racism and stereotypes. But I refuse to let that hold me back. Instead, I choose to use my platform to inspire those who come after me and fight for a more inclusive and diverse industry.

In the end, losing my agent is just one more hurdle in the long journey of my career. But I am determined to overcome it, and to continue being a driving force in the entertainment industry.

I believe that perseverance and a positive attitude are crucial in this industry. It’s important to remember that rejection is part of the process, and not to let it discourage you. Instead, use it as motivation to improve your craft and strive for better opportunities.

Furthermore, I recognise the importance of networking and building relationships in this industry. Top tier agents may not come knocking on your door, but with hard work and dedication, you can attract their attention. It may take time, but staying proactive and continuing to hone your craft can lead to valuable connections and opportunities.

In conclusion, being an actor is not just about securing jobs and making a name for yourself. It’s about telling stories, inspiring others, and using your platform to make a positive impact. I am grateful for every opportunity I have had thus far, and I am excited to see where my career takes me next.

I hope that my experience of losing my agent can serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement to others who may be facing similar challenges.

It’s important to remember that setbacks are an opportunity for growth and that ultimately, it’s up to us as individuals to pave our own paths.
