The times when you are not on campus should be about getting the most out of life where you can. It is so easy for us to sleep in until midday and to let life pass us by, but it’s so important for your mental and your physical wellbeing to open yourself up to experiences, while also making sure that you are keeping an eye on your expenses. Camping is a great solution for students because we can get a lot out of it. Here are some of the many benefits:

It Helps You Detox From Life

It is so easy for us to stay glued to our phones, but we can always do with getting away from life and ensuring that we are detoxing from the things that, in the long run, don’t really matter. Camping out in nature is a big shock to the system the first time around because if you go far away enough from any phone signal, you are left with just the elements and yourself.

This is why it’s important for you to prepare before you go camping so you are ready for those semi-emergency situations. For example, if you run out of power, there are practical solutions like Growatt power stations so you can power a cooker, but the great thing about stepping away from normal life for a while is that it helps you to detoxify from all of the noise that is not particularly helpful.

It Can Strengthen Relationships

There’s something different about spending an evening in a tent with a friend compared to a place like a coffee shop. While we can go back to the many distractions that life throws at us, going camping brings everything back down to basics. You have the opportunity to talk properly without any excessive noise. It forces you to work together to put the tent up, and it also gives you so many experiences that you wouldn’t necessarily have in an urban location. For example, the opportunity to talk late into the night allows for precious moments where you can discuss your thoughts and feelings.

You may not necessarily have the opportunity to do so due to an abundance of distractions. While it’s a cliché that nighttime campfire talk helps everybody put the world to rights, removing all of those distractions from our lives makes us realise what is and what is not important. We can always come away from a camping experience feeling like we’ve got to know someone better, even if we’ve known them for years. Sometimes, this can be an amazing way to strengthen relationships, but of course, sometimes it can make us feel like the person we’ve spent an evening with in a tent is not our kind of person, and that’s okay too.

The Great Benefits of Fresh Air

Sometimes when we go camping, we end up coughing a bit for a while, and this doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you, but it’s actually that you’re finally getting rid of those things your body doesn’t necessarily agree with! Spending time outdoors has a number of benefits, and when you are spending quality time with people in the fresh air, away from the smells of normal life in an urban environment, you can feel yourself decompressing.

Depending on where you live, fresh air may be scarce. When you go camping, it’s not just about that fresh air, but you’re also experiencing different smells that you wouldn’t necessarily have encountered before, including the smell of food cooking over an open fire. It is simplicity personified.

It Helps to De-Stress

When we go from one place to the next and we’ve got an overly crowded schedule, it can easily make us feel like we’re overwhelmed and ready to burn out. When you go camping, there is no schedule. There’s nothing interrupting you or vying for your attention. Therefore, if you’re feeling like everything is too much, you can go camping and get back to basics. When we head out into nature and lose mobile signal and remove any notion of a schedule, the natural outcome is that we feel more relaxed than ever.

Maybe you’ve spoken to people who graduated in the last year and found life to be a major shock to the system because there’s just a lot to do and not enough time to do it. Therefore, it helps you to prepare for the real world by having a few unwinding techniques. Camping is an amazing solution because it takes you away from everything, but it also forces you to confront the things in life that have been window-dressing. The things that you don’t need in life can be too numerous to count. Therefore, when you start to look for simple ways to live your life, you should always go back to basics, and what better way to do it than camping?

It Helps You Be Yourself

Spending time out in nature forces us to unwind. Naturally, being out in the open air is better for your physical health, and it allows you to unplug. The whole camping experience forces you to start looking at things differently. We can easily become reliant on things that don’t provide much meaning. When we start to allow ourselves the opportunity to get bored and see the stars away from the big city, this connection with nature allows us to feel more like who we really are.

We all could benefit from stepping away from our stressful lives, and when we start to do things that allow us to step away from our normal existence, it provides us with a greater sense of clarity for when we return. As nice as it would be to stay out in nature forever, the fact is that we will have to return. But when you do return, much like anybody that goes on a gap year, they learn so much more about themselves that it helps them develop resilience against the modern world. It is so important for us to develop ourselves away from the confines of normal society, and if you are looking for an amazing solution to help you develop, camping is a low-cost, high-impact one.
