There are so many rule and restrictions about what we should or should not be doing with our makeup. Let’s be honest, we all know the main bad makeup habits but choose to ignore them and carry on in a state of blissful ignorance

As we’re now heading into the Christmas party season should we all make a pact to try and stick to the bellow rules? (Even if it is just for a few weeks).

Cleaning Brushes
It’s such a boring task but it is so easy. It is generally advised that we clean our brushes at least once a month just to rid them of any old make up, germs or bacteria. There are so many expensive brush cleaning solutions out there, but warm soapy water does the job. If you’re thinking “I don’t have time to clean my brushes and wait for them to dry!” there is a simple solution. Use a hair-dryer to gently dry the bristles. They’ll be as good as new in no time.

Don’t Pump Mascara Wands:
It’s the holy grail of bad makeup habits. It’s so easily done, and most of us don’t even realise we’re doing it. Pumping your wand is mascara killer! The movement traps excess air into the bottle and can quickly dry out your mascara. This is often what causes it to become clumpy, flaky and generally useless. Before pulling the wand out of the bottle try twisting it gently to coat the wand in mascara. This reduces the air entering the bottle and keeps it fresh for longer.

Once Opened:
So many makeup items have “Once opened use within (days)” on the containers. Perhaps you’re thinking “What?! There’s no date on this nail varnish!”. Look for a small logo which looks like an opened round pot. The number inside the pot followed by the letter “M” represents how soon the product should be used after opening. If the number is “12M” it means replace after 12 months. I’m particularly guilty of this. As I write this I am wearing a mascara which I’ve been using for over 2 years. Oops.

Sleeping Bare Faced:
Yes it’s obvious, but so important! We must take our make up off before bed. Whether you use face wipes, micellar water or just warm water and a flannel it doesn’t matter, just get that gunk of your face before bed. For one at least your pillows will be cleaner in the morning!

There are so so many makeup rules it’s simply impossible to follow them all! Just pick a few simple ones and try to work them into your daily/weekly/monthly routines. Be kind to your face.
