Cuckoo Series 2 News by Georgina Rowe

In 2012, BBC Three had a surprise hit with their low-budget comedy ‘Cuckoo’. Earlier this year, it was confirmed to be returning for a second series, although without main actor Andy Samberg.

Andy Samberg was unfortunately unable to return, after his show ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine’ became a hit in the States, so the writers turned to former ‘Twilight’ heart-throb Taylor Lautner for their American star-power.

Now I know what you’re thinking. How could it possibly get any worse? An actor who played a werewolf in ‘Twilight’? Catastrophe. But really, he’s been hailed as “charming” and “a really lovely guy” by his co-stars Greg Davies and Tyger Drew-Honey, which is somewhat promising.

The trailer also looks great, showing off a completely different side to Jacob Black. It introduces his character, Dale, as Cuckoo (Andy Samberg’s character’s son), which will be explained apparently. His character seems to be involved with a cult, and the Thompson family are looking after him.

Taylor fits right in with the British cast in the series 2 trailer, and the same could be said for the atmosphere on set. Tyger Drew-Honey said in an interview with Digital Spy that “he’s fantastically talented – not only [can he do] comedy acting, but he does all his own stunts.”

Abodus - Live until 29th Sep 24

Cuckoo returns for its second series on BBC Three on Thursday 7th August 2014.
